Now in its 4th decade of publication, Substance Abuse journal is a peer-reviewed journal that serves as the official publication of Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA) in association with The International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) and the International Coalition for Addiction Studies in Education (INCASE). Substance Abuse journal offers wide-ranging coverage for healthcare professionals, addiction specialists and others engaged in research, education, clinical care, and service delivery and evaluation. It features articles on a variety of topics, including:

  • Interdisciplinary addiction research, education, and treatment
  • Clinical trial, epidemiology, health services, and translation addiction research
  • Implementation science related to addiction
  • Innovations and subsequent outcomes in addiction education
  • Addiction policy and opinion
  • International addiction topics
  • Clinical care regarding addictions

Substance Abuse journal accepts original research, brief reports, review articles, case studies, letters to the editor, commentaries, and editorials. The journal is pleased to receive all manuscript submissions electronically via their ScholarOne website (use button below) . ScholarOne Manuscripts allows for RAPID SUBMISSION of original and revised manuscripts, as well as RAPID DISSEMINATION of accepted manuscripts awaiting print publication through an “epublication ahead of print” mechanism.

Substance Abuse journal is abstracted and/or indexed in: Medline , Academic Search Alumni Edition; Academic Search Complete; Academic Search Premier; CAB International Abstracts; CINAHL Database; Educational Research Abstracts; PsycINFO; SOC Index; Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE); Social Work Abstracts; and Studies on Women & Gender Abstracts. The journal has a rising Impact Factor of 1.25 (2010).

The journal has a long history of editorial expertise under Marc Galanter, MD, who served as the Founding Editor. In the fall of 2012, the Editorial Office transitioned its office to Pittsburgh, PA under the Editorship of Adam J. Gordon, MD MPH FACP FASAM. The journal is comprised of a multidisciplinary Editorial Board which represents the full strength and range of AMERSA, ISAM, and INCASE experience in research, education, policy, and administration regarding addiction. Substance Abuse is published by Taylor & Francis Group.

Canadian Journal of Addiction (CJA)

The Canadian Journal of Addiction/Journal Canadien d’Addiction (CJA-JCA) is the official publication of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine. It is a peer-reviewed journal devoted to practical clinical research, management and treatment issues related to addictive disorders and their behaviors. The journal publishes broad-spectrum, patient-oriented coverage of all aspects of addiction, directed toward an audience of addiction medicine clinicians, primary care providers, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, pharmacists, and other health care practitioners involved in alleviating the consequences of the misuses of alcohol and licit and illicit drugs as well as addictive behaviors. CJA is intended to portray the Canadian experience but also welcomes international submissions relevant to Canadian practice.
