This global event is dedicated to providing world-class addiction medicine education and provides an exceptional opportunity to highlight new research, innovative practices, sociopolitical ideas and new approaches to treatment. Our goal is to help addiction medicine practitioners deliver cutting-edge treatment to patients the world over.

This page provides an overview of the abstract submission process. For complete details, please visit our new abstract submission platform.

What topics will be featured in 2021?

Abstracts on all aspects of addiction are welcome. In 2021, we especially encourage abstracts that focus on exploring global solutions to international problems in the field of addiction medicine, including:

  • Drug, alcohol and non-pharmacological addiction-related policies
  • Inequalities and vulnerabilities
  • Addiction mechanisms
  • Multiple morbidities
  • Recovery and harm reduction
  • Interface and care principles
  • Novel treatments and other interventions
  • Digitilisation

Abstracts should present new scientific research, best practices and evidence-based addiction treatment, care and interventions. The committee favors original, new work based on the latest evidence and data. Diverse perspectives on addiction treatment and recovery are encouraged.

What types of presentations will be featured in 2021?

The 2021 congress will feature four types of presentations:

Symposium:  A 90-minute session intended to give attendees an in-depth understanding on a specific clinical or scientific topic.

Oral Presentation:  A 15-20 minute presentation of a clinical or scientific report, usually related to new research findings.  Oral presentations on similar topics will be grouped together into 90-minute Topic Sessions.

Poster Presentation:  An opportunity to share addiction-related ideas, research, or clinical work using prepared electronic posters. ISAM encourages everyone, especially trainees, to submit abstracts for posters.

Invited Presentation: Please select this presentation type only if the conference committee has invited you to give a presentation.

Who is eligible to submit an abstract?

We encourage submissions from all addiction medicine practitioners including students, young investigators, researchers and health and social care providers from diverse organizations and fields. You do not need to be a member of ISAM to submit an abstract. However, if you are submitting an abstract we encourage you to consider becoming a member as your membership will provide you with a substantial discount on registration.

Each abstract must include a title, 300-word summary, a short biography of the presenter, learning objectives and references. For detailed submission information, please visit our abstract submission platform.
