Addiction Psychiatry Society of India (APSI)


APSI has been established with the vision of providing a vibrant platform to professionals for promoting excellence in training, research and clinical care in the field of addiction psychiatry. The stated missions of the society includes, developing addiction psychiatry as a specialty; enhancing access to and improving the quality of addiction treatment; educating and training health-care and other professionals, and the general public; collaborating with various global agencies, societies and all stakeholders working in the field of addiction psychiatry. Soon after its inception APSI organized its first professional activity in the form of a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program titled “ICD-11 – Disorders due to substance use and addictive behaviours: Developing a consensus”, on 31 January 2021. The online event held on Zoom and streamed live on YouTube had more than 1000 professionals attending and discussing the nuances of ICD 11 classification and its implications for the field of addiction psychiatry. The society plan to hold periodic academic activities including national level conferences. Currently the APSI is on a membership drive and every month, dozens of professionals have been displaying their interest in joining APSI.
