The Fundamentals course is a day long course of sequential presentations on the screening, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of alcohol and substance use disorders. Specifically, alcohol, opioid, benzodiazepine, and stimulant use. abuse, and dependence issues will be introduced and reviewed. We shall also return to our popular review of the ‘language of addictions medicine’ and the neurobiology of addictions. Additional topics relevant to the fundamental understandings of addiction medicine can also be included based on the requests of the attending audience. The topics that may be of interest in past years have included: Adolescent and Youth Addiction issues, Concurrent Disorders, Pain and Addiction, and other substances of abuse (MDMA, Ketamine, GHB, salvia etc.)
